Ibanez RG550 JAPAN ’91 – the short story of my guitar

In this video I describe another of my guitars – an Ibanez RG550 made in Japan in 1991. Despite the years it is in great shape. The finish may need touching up in places, but the wood of the body and neck keeps its beautiful musical qualities.

The guitar got a pickup set like the Ibanez JPM100: a DiMarzio Air Norton at the bridge and a Stevie’s Special at the neck – this combination sounds fantastic! Following Paul Gilbert and his Ibanez PGM100, I blocked the bridge. The guitar also has a maple fingerboard like that model, and inspired by Richie Kotzen’s RK1 I swapped the knobs for strikingly colourful ones 🙂

The jumbo frets are still in good condition. Japanese guitar making was clearly at its very best back then. As in the Kramer 612 video, I used a Roland Cube 15 amplifier.
